I am not the most experienced jewellery DIYer in the world, but then again, neither are most of people. Don't you guys feel sad, there are still plenty of easy crafts like this necklace! You can completely customise to your style - you can use different sized pearls to make the necklace classy and wear it with the evening dress or you can use some shells and make it little more casual like I did. Your possibilities are (almost) endless.
Supplies:
- beads (different sizes looks the best)
- fishing line
- scissors
- some kind of closure and jump rings
First of all, you need to decide how thick you want your necklace to be. I made mine out of 10 strings, but you can add more. You want to cut desired amount of strings, each of them 70 cm long. If you are struggling with fishing line's nature - not holding where you want it to - use clothes pin to hold it in place.
Now it's the time to add beads. Don't forget to leave about 15 cm without beads on each end of every string. You will need this to attach the closure. Adding beads and locking them in place where you want them to stay is easy.
1) Pull the string through a bead.
2) Pull the string through the same end of bead again to form a loop around bead. Tighten the loop.
3) Form another loop as in previous step. Do NOT tighten this one.
4) Pull the string inside loose loop (I wrapped it around a loop twice for extra security). This will secure your bead in place after you tighten everything in place.
Basically, you want to continue these steps every few centimetres with new bead until your reach 15 cm from the end of the string.
You should end up with a string that looks similar to those in the picture on the left side. Repeat these steps with all of your strings.
Once you have completed all the strings, you want to get ends of all the strings together on both sides and attach closure to them. This varies on what kind of closure you use, but the main role will go to the crimp seed beads or cups and a superglue. :)
